The COVID-19 pandemic has left many personal and financial victims. One of the first was the MWC 2020 celebration, which was canceled due to a decision we now see as a success.
For the past 12 months there has been speculation as to whether the MWC would be held again or whether the format would be canceled or changed. Today the CEO of GSMA, the company that organizes it, gave the answer.
MWC 2021 will be face to face in Barcelona
Unlike previous occasions, this year 2021 the celebration of the International Congress will take place in Barcelona in June, and the Shanghai Congress will take place in the same month of February. Therefore, the dates were changed at least on this occasion.
Jon Hoffman, CEO of GSMA, stated: “The requirements required by Covid will reduce our capacity. We will not have 110,000 people, with limited travel and test capacity and one-way transit through the exhibition, we have no alternative.”
Therefore, the capacity limit is set at around 40,000 people who require a negative Covid-19 test result in the last 72 hours to enter the facility.
