Image editing has come a long way, and in 2021 you don’t have to be a Photoshop expert to improve your photos. If you took a group photo with an unwanted PhotoBomb photo or a photo that is almost perfect without that person in the photo, Samsung has a solution.
The Galaxy S21 range includes a new feature called Object Eraser, which may be the solution they didn’t know was needed. Thanks to the AI-based photo editing available on the best Samsung phones, you can now remove elements from an image with just a few taps.
How to activate the object eraser
Open the gallery application. Select an image with an object that you want to remove. Source: Android Central Touch the pencil icon to open the image editor. Touch the three dots in the upper right corner of the Gallery app and touch Labs. Touch the switch next to the object eraser to activate the function.
Since Object Eraser is a beta feature, you’ll need to enable it before the option appears in the Gallery application.
If the option isn’t available in Settings, check that the Gallery application is the latest version available.

Using the Object Eraser
With the Object Eraser active, return to an image with an object that you want to remove. Scroll to the far right point on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen and tap the new eraser icon. Touch the item you want to remove. The object is highlighted in purple. You can tap to highlight multiple objects at once. Source: Android Central Touch Delete to remove any highlighted item from the picture. If you are not satisfied with the results, you can use the “Undo” button and try again. When you are happy with the image, tap the check mark in the lower right corner of the screen to replace the original image and save the result.
Like the content fill feature in Photoshop, Object Eraser analyzes the image and intelligently removes the objects selected by the user, replacing them according to the environment.
Original image object removed
It’s not perfect and if you zoom in you will likely see some artifact, but in my tests I was impressed with how well this feature works in most cases. Try it out and see how it works with your photos!
