With WhatsApp, you can silence videos before you share them

It was not possible to silence videos in WhatsApp before, but a new feature introduced with beta version 2.21.3.13 makes this option possible.

One of the most common options I use in Instagram Stories before sharing a video is usually to mute the audio. This allows me to put on background music or just remove the conversation from the surroundings in restaurants and other public places, or my cat meows, it’s more like that lately.

It was not possible to silence videos in WhatsApp before, but a new feature introduced with beta version 2.21.3.13 makes this option possible.

How to mute WhatsApp videos before sharing

To remove the sound from the videos, simply press a new button that will appear on the screen when you select the video you want to send.

At the top left of the option that allows us to choose whether we want to send the file as a video or a GIF, there is a new icon in the shape of a speaker.

If we don’t touch it, the video will be published with the original audio. When we click on it, it will be muted and a line will appear over the icon, a classic icon for the Mute or Mute option in any software. After pressing it, we can send the video without the original sound.

It’s good news that WhatsApp is finally giving us that option.

Finally, it has to be said that this reduces the size of the videos as they contain less information. You can expect a reduction of between 5 and 10%.
